Address Verification Supports Service in an Alberta Collision Recovery

An out-of-province driver’s address was verified before personal service in an Alberta collision claim, which later settled and was withdrawn.

The situation

An insurer’s policyholder was involved in a collision in Alberta. The other driver’s licence recorded an address in a neighbouring province, and that address required confirmation.

Our approach

Precision Paralegal Services filed a civil claim in Alberta, then conducted a limited demographic search and address verification.

Once the address was confirmed, we arranged personal service on the defendant.

The claim settled. We obtained a signed release, confirmed the settlement payment and filed a Notice of Withdrawal.

The outcome

The claim settled, payment was confirmed and a release was signed. The court file was formally withdrawn.

Address verification was a practical step before attempting service in this file. Confirming the defendant’s address allowed the matter to move from locating and serving the defendant to resolving the claim.
